Dr. Bang Shen is a professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Huazhong Agricultural University, China. He is the recipient of the prestigious Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. His laboratory work focuses on the pathobiology of the zoonotic parasite Toxoplasma gondii, including the metabolic strategies for parasitism and life cycle regulation, as well as novel interventions like vaccines. Over the last five years, he has published more than 20 papers in journals like Nature Communications, PNAS, mBio and PLoS Pathogens. His work also led to the innovation of a live attenuated Toxoplasma vaccine based on a metabolic deficient mutant. Five patents have been granted. He serves as an associate editor for the journal Animal Diseases and a guest editor for Communications Biology.
